Safety Message: Ergonomic tips for the office

Working at a desk all day can lead to discomfort. But setting up your workstation ergonomically and engaging in some healthy habits can help keep you feeling your best.

Take a look at these five tips and see how many you can put into your work day!

1.       Find your natural posture, aligning and balancing the body while either standing or sitting.

  • Head is level with the screen
  •  Back is supported properly
  •  Shoulders are relaxed
  • Hands, wrist, forearms are parallel to the floor
  • Elbows are close to your body
  • Thighs and hips are parallel to the floor
  • Feet firmly on the ground

2.       Adjust your keyboard and mouse. Be sure to properly position your mouse next to your keyboard.

3.       Adjust your screens. As a general rule of thumb, the top of your monitor should be at your eye level.

4.       Adjust your chair so that it aligns to support your entire body.

5.        Don’t sit still all day. Take regular, short breaks in which you stand up and move.
