New LPNs and deadline for next LPN program

Bethel’s second Licensed Practice Nurse (LPN) program, the result of a continuing collaboration between Alaska Pacific University (APU) and YUUT Elitnaurviat, will be holding their pinning ceremony for five of our very own YKHC employees on Thursday, April 27, 2023 from 6 – 7 p.m. at YUUT Elitnaurviat.

LPN Class of 2023:

  • Ashley Nicole Brand
  • Ashley Cora Dade
  • Steisy Carmona Feliz
  • Virginia Ann Howard
  • Elizabeth Mbula Wasonga

Our hats off to these employees/graduates who have worked tirelessly to juggle many responsibilities with work, family, and school, among other commitments to complete the LPN program. Now, they prepare for intensive NCLEX-PN exam preparation sessions, passing which will earn them the LPN designation.  Congratulations to all our LPN graduates and much success to them as they move forward to another rung in their career aspirations!

The next LPN program in Bethel is scheduled to start in Fall 2023. The purpose of the Practical Nurse (LPN) program at APU is to deliver a nursing program focused on cultural safety and quality care for rural and Alaska Native populations and aligned with opportunities advancing in the nursing profession. LPNs contribute to the health and wellbeing of their communities, while earning wages and benefits to support their families.

Over two semesters, students will learn how to demonstrate patient advocacy, incorporate families and recognize groups in ways that promote self-determination, integrity, and growth as human beings and to respect the diversity of individuals. Upon licensing, LPN students will have expanded career opportunities.
