Diagnostic Imaging welcomes Dr. Berry, thanks Dr. Vanderburgh for his service

After 20 plus years of service at YKHC Dr. Vanderburgh has retired.

Dr. V graduated with his Doctorate in Medicine in 1985 and served as an Emergency Room Physician from 1986-1990. From 1990-1994 Dr. V completed his Radiology Residency earning honors as the most learned radiology resident. In 1994 Dr. V moved to Anchorage. As a Radiologist, Dr. V was an annual speaker at Alaska Society of Radiologic Technologists conference, frequently speaking of teleradiology and PACS. Dr. V developed and coordinated the first PACS system in Alaska and the PACS system at the new Elmendorf hospital. Dr. V implemented the first DoD teleradiology system in Alaska and traveled to Washington DC to brief Senator Stevens’ staff regarding teleradiology in Alaska.

YKHC is pleased to welcome Dr. John Berry, a new Interpreting Physician who is filling the vacancy left by Dr. Vanderburgh.

Dr. Berry completed his diagnostic imaging residency training at Wilford Hall Medical Center, San Antonio, Texas, with extensive experience in Level 1 trauma center, oncology, and OB/GYN imaging. He completed an Abdominal Imaging fellowship at the University of California San Francisco, specializing in the imaging of inflammatory bowel disease, abdominal/pelvic oncology, and liver disease.

With decades of experience and problem-solving, patient care, and diagnostic imaging, he reads all modalities and looks forward to serving our patient population.

Dr. Barry was born and raised in Grant County, Indiana, in and around James Dean‘s small home town, and has been halfway around the world and back again with the USAF. Today he lives in Centerville, Ohio, and enjoys camping, bike riding, hot springs, dark skies, good music, and great books.

Dr. Barry feels honored to join the YKHC Delta regional hospital team it looks forward to serving the needs of our patients and his providers.

In the Air Force, he was guided by the US AF core values: Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence in All We Do. These align very well with the YKHC values of Optimism, Compassion, Pursuit of Excellence, Personal Growth, Importance of Family, Trust, and Elder Knowledge.

 Dr. Barry says, “I have found the right place to practice, and I’m very happy to be joining your team.”
