A year ago GCI partnered with the YKHC to create a way for Bethel based employees to use YKHC’s virtual desktops from home through a local connection rather than going out to the internet. Recently GCI enhanced this service so connecting from a home in Bethel would not count against the monthly data usage for GCI’s residential internet customers.

This free usage is available only in Bethel, between homes and YKHC because it is a local connection. In addition to not counting against your monthly GCI residential internet data usage, this local connection should be faster than VPN. Take advantage of this service from home in Bethel by connecting to server https://hz-bet01.ykhc.org within the VMware Horizon Client app. (Click on the following link to learn more about Adding a Server to the VMware Horizon View Client.) When you are physically at a YKHC facility in Bethel you would switch the Horizon server to https://Horizon.ykhc.org. When working at home in Bethel you would switch the Horizon server to https://hz-bet01.ykhc.org. 

Please note: If you use VPN software to connect to YKHC from a home in Bethel with GCI residential internet, your connection will count against your monthly data usage because VPN software uses the internet rather than this new local connection.

Our sincere apologies for not being able to provide this benefit sooner, but it’s here to stay and at least it will be helpful for those who have to work evenings or weekends.
