Safety Session of the Week: Snowmageddon! Tips for Being Safe in the Snow

In this week’s safety session: Snowmageddon! Snowpocalypse! SnOMG!

This snow season, we have seen the most snow in recent years! Here are some safety tips to keep in mind as we enjoy the fresh powder or shovel our driveways and walkways:

  • Use proper personal protective equipment: Hats, gloves, snow boots, snow pants, and layers. We don’t want you to sweat as you are trying to shovel out from being stuck.
  • Use proper form when shoveling snow as twisting, turning, and lifting a heavy load may be strenuous on your back and could cause an injury.
  • When traveling outside, tell someone of your travel plans. Route, Time, Destination, when you plan to return. It would be wise to take water and some snacks for energy.
  • Keep well hydrated whether you’re at home shoveling or hitting the trails and slopes.
  • Report any snow covered walkways that you encounter here at the hospital to the Maintenance department by creating a ticket in worxhub! There is a quicklink located on the intranet page to access worxhub.

Contact your safety team to report any safety issues: Director of Safety and Security ext. 6593 or Assistant Director of Safety and Security ext. 6590. Safety risks can also be reported using the online reporting system, Quantros.
