New Certified Pharmacy Technicians!

L to R – Clara Knight, Roseanne George, Julia Westdahl

We extend our hearty congratulations to Clara Knight, Roseanne George, and Julia Westdahl, our very own pharmacy technicians, who recently completed a yearlong apprenticeship program to gain the skills needed to become Certified Pharmacy Technicians.

We are excited and proud that they all have passed their exam. All three have also earned their state license! Big congratulations to Clara Knight, Roseanne George, & Julia Westdahl as seen below (Left to Right) for joining the growing number of Certified Pharmacy Technicians at YKHC!

The pharmacy technician apprenticeship program demanded commitment and dedication that our three graduates handled admirably well, as they had to juggle their work/home responsibilities in addition to fulfilling their weekly assignments. Each technician had to apply and be accepted to the program. Once in the program, they began weekly classes, coursework, and on the job competencies that taught them more about their role as pharmacy technicians and prepared them to take the national certification exam. Their program began in October 2021 and they completed the course requirements in the fall of 2022. The apprentices have been studying hard in preparation for taking their certification exam.

Mentors play a key role in the success of the apprenticeship program, as they underpin the achievement of these graduates. Our gratitude goes out to the pharmacists who mentored these apprentices and selflessly shared of their time and talents beyond their roles and responsibilities.

We are so proud of our three pharmacy technician apprentices for graduating from the program and commend them for their hard work and dedication. Thank you for setting the example and precedence of what is attainable to other employees who are considering upskilling in their current roles and vying for national certifications!

This program was borne out of a collaboration between YKHC and APCA in 2021 and facilitated by YK-AHEC. The apprenticeship program offers a variety of certification tracks. It has afforded our employees with opportunities to “learn at lunch” and acquire the skills necessary to qualify to take national certification exams in their career tracks, including but not limited to medical assistant, medical biller and coder, and dental assistant. The on-the-job training requirement of the apprenticeship program augurs well for employees who are interested in upskilling and/or attaining national certification in their current roles.
