Obstetrics unit receives a CuddleCot donation

YKHC’s OB Unit was recently gifted with a CuddleCot. This extremely thoughtful and generous donation was received from Jennifer Redding. It was donated in memory of her daughter Valerie Vaughn Rebel Redding, who was born silently on 04/19/2023.

There are currently over 2,000 CuddleCots in use around the world, and our OB unit is very grateful and fortunate to have one available for family use during the very difficult times of stillbirth.

Some information about CuddleCot:

  • CuddleCot gives grieving families the gift of time.
  • The CuddleCot is a unique cooling device that helps grieving parents to have the gift of time with their baby who has died.
  • It also helps in the preservation of the precious memories associated with the baby. Its impact is undeniable and it is in use in thousands of hospitals across the world.
  • Providing grieving families time through the use of the CuddleCot is internationally encouraged by healthcare professionals worldwide. Time allows the family to form an important bond with their baby and helps them in dealing with their loss.
  • Cooling the baby is absolutely essential and this is where the CuddleCot comes in, as it cools to an ideal temperature for preserving baby without being too cold for the parents.
How the CuddleCot works:
  • The CuddleCot cooling pad is placed in any Moses basket, crib or bed. It is connected by a specially insulated hose and is quietly cooled using the CuddleCot cooling unit.
  • The CuddleCot’s thin, soft cooling pad is placed on top of the soft mattress which ensures the baby is fully cushioned and comfortable. The CuddleCot system comes with two sizes of cooling pads for premature and full-term babies.
  • The CuddleCot is designed to be used with the specially adapted Shnuggle Moses basket. The basket has been specially molded to accommodate the cooling pad and hose.

YKHC was gifted the complete setup, and it is available to be used at any time.
