Introducing the new Sub-Regional Clinic Administrator: Gail Alstrom-Beans

In last week’s news it was announced that Gail Alstrom-Beans was becoming the new Sub-Regional Clinic (SRC) administrator. This week, Gail shares her story for people who may not have met her yet:

I transitioned to a new position within the Yukon Kuskokwim Health Corporation in October of this year, taking on the role of SRC Administrator. Prior to this, I was the Operation’s Manager for the St. Mary’s Sub-Regional Clinic working with the villages of St. Mary’s, Pitkas Point, Pilot Station, Mountain Village, and Marshall.

During my 20-year tenure at the St. Mary’s SRC, I helped our Sub-Regional Clinic expanded to a three-provider and two-DHAT Sub-Regional Clinic and worked with our staff to improve the health care Indicators for our sub-region (including national recognition for our work in hypertension control (prior to COVID). I am a resident of St. Mary’s and my parents are William and Hilda Alstrom also of St. Mary’s. My grandparents are the late Fred and Domitilla Alstrom of St. Mary’s, and Martina and the late Tommy Heckman from Pilot Station.

I am a graduate of Stanford University, where I majored in psychology and pre-medicine. I currently live in St. Mary’s with my husband and our dog Sitka. This is our first year as empty nesters, as our children are all off on their own adventures at schools around the country. When I’m not keeping busy with the health and livelihood of the YK Delta, you can find me trying to hone my photography skills, taking on new traditional skin sewing projects or cooking up a storm for my family.
