YK-AHEC Clinical Rotation Program: A salute to our preceptors

As part of its efforts to support initiatives to expand and diversify Alaska’s healthcare workforce, the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation (YKHC) offers clinical rotation opportunities for aspiring health professionals eager to put their knowledge to practical use and serve in rural/underserved areas.

At the core of this initiative are the dedicated preceptors who have tirelessly assisted AHEC in placing students.  Indeed, the preceptors at YKHC have been pivotal to the success of YK-AHEC’s clinical rotation program as they selflessly carve out time in their busy schedules to mentor, guide, and provide participants with invaluable hands-on skills under their professional tutelage. Moreover, the preceptors have gone above and beyond to make these students feel welcome and at home in beautiful Bethel.

Optometry, dentistry, & pharmacy seem to be the most popular specialty areas, with optometry accounting for the majority of student clinicians for this program year.

AHEC salutes the commitment and dedication of the preceptors and thank them for their commitment and dedication in providing an avenue for skill cultivation and enhancement for our future healthcare workers!

Hopefully 2022 will bring in more students and preceptors in other specialty areas to facilitate the quality, supply and distribution of healthcare workers in the YK region.
