Janette Ulak has been selected as the 2021 recipient of the Shining Star- Outstanding Accomplishments Award by the Dental Academic Review Committee (DARC).

The Outstanding Accomplishment Award is awarded to a Dental Health Aide that has made a substantial impact in their community and/or patient care.

Jannette is being recognized for the outstanding accomplishment of bringing permanent dental services to her home community of Scammon Bay. She helped establish the first ever permanent full-time staffed dental clinic in her community. She had to figure out how to manage space in the clinic, how to manage integrating with the staff in the clinic, and how to manage the day-to-day operations of running a dental clinic in a new location. Her path was not easy, and she faced many struggles. There were times when she found herself without patients on the schedule, and no dental assistant to help. She faced many obstacles like this, and would still power through and overcome them. For Jannette’s efforts and determination, Scammon Bay has a thriving dental clinic.

The DARC will present Janette with this award at the Health Aide Program Awards Ceremony held on December 8, 2021 at 12 p.m.
