Safety Message: Tis the season to celebrate safely!

To ensure your holidays don’t go from merry to scary, remember these holiday safety tips.

  1. Keep decorations at least three feet away from heat sources.
  2. If buying an artificial tree, look for the fire-resistant label.
  3. When decorating, don’t run cords under rugs or furniture, out of windows, or across walkways and sidewalks.
  4. When decorating outside, make sure to use lights for outdoor use and fasten lights securely.
  5. Always turn off your decorations when you leave your home.
  6. Be mindful of how you are using electrical outlets. Extension cords are a common cause of home fires.
  7. Use electronics only in dry areas.
  8. If you’re using a space heater, switch it off before leaving the room.
  9. Inspect your decorations and discard any that are damaged or worn out.
  10. When using a ladder, be extra careful.
  11. Keep children and pets away from candles or small decorations.
  12. Need a perfect gift idea? How about a smoke alarm? Every home needs a working smoke alarm.
