In preparation of an arrival of the joint commission, this week’s safety message will review the Environment of Care tour safety and security checklist.
Review and reminders:
- Wear your staff ID badges at all times.
- All ceiling tiles are clean and not stained.
- Storage areas: Heavier items stored at waist level, lightest objects on higher shelves, liquid containers below eye level.
- Compressed gas cylinders secured in cart. Empty and full stored separated or identified clearly.
- All storage at least 18″ below the sprinkler heads and smoke detectors.
- All fire alarm pull stations: Fire extinguishers and fire exits all accessible. Do not block!
- Excess paper and combustibles properly stored to prevent fire risk.
- Know the location of the nearest fire pull station (fire alarm) and fire extinguishers.
- Is the fire extinguisher monthly inspection current with date?
- What is a code red? What do you do? Fire or smoke. Horizontal evacuation.
- What ZONE/AREA are you in now? Exit where? (Area A, Area B, Area C, Area D, etc.)
- What is R.A.C.E? What is P.A.S.S.? RACE= Rescue, Alarm, Contain, Evacuate PASS= Pull pin, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep Information is on your ID Badge)
