Safety Message: EOC Tours

EOC Tours are schedule bi-weekly throughout the YKHC hospital, BH and LTC buildings. The EOC tour consist of surveying the following areas, Emergency Management, Safety & Security, Leadership, Nursing, Infection Prevention, Maintenance and EVS. This is a staff knowledge and inspection survey.  Below is the Emergency Management questions we ask during an EOC Tour:

1.      What is the code for Internal Disaster? What is a disaster?
Triage Internal – Internal Disaster
Triage Internal – Patient Surge
Disaster event that affects hospital routine and patient care internal or external.  Natural or man-made. Usually high number of trauma patients
2.      What is HICS? (Hospital Incident Command System)
System we use to organize staff & resources for effective response to disaster
3.       Where is Incident Command Post? (ICP)
YKHC Hospital – 3rd floor Administration Office, Conference room near ER, CHSB Board Room
4.       What is a Recall List?
List of staff names with phones numbers, updated quarterly. Report names of available staff on site during a disaster. The supervisor fills it out.
5.       Can you leave and go home during Code Triage (internal/external)?
No. You can only be dismissed by your supervisor.
6.       What is your role when a disaster is activated?
Report to your department or supervisor or Labor Pool for assignment. Be ready.
7.       Emergency after hours; where should you report?
Labor Pool (Wellness/Diabetes Center)
8.      Can you give disaster information or statement to media?
No. Only the Public Information Officer (PIO)
