Compass Spotlight: Felicia Wassillie

The Compass Program provides a great opportunity to work through and expand on knowledge, skills, and abilities for participants and managers alike. Not only is it a great way to build work ethic, but is also an opportunity to help build upon YKHC’s vision, mission, and goals. In Compass, we are taught helpful tools geared not only towards individuals within management, but tools that can be used by all team members. We are encouraged to get out of our comfort zones and explore opportunities as they come along. Never be afraid of change. We learn to put forth our best effort daily and to go above and beyond.

As a newcomer to the health field, being a part of Compass has really opened up my level of comfort as far as hospitals go. When I was young, I knew I wanted to be a Doctor. As I grew older, that changed because I started to fear hospitals. Instead of pursuing a career in health, I obtained my bachelor’s in business. Business is basically where my career started at a very young age, helping my mom run our family store.

Most of my career focus is in Human Resources, I enjoy the daily challenges and tasks. Since joining YKHC in October of 2018, it has been a huge learning curve for me. The organization has so many moving parts to keep the pulse of the hospital going. The first department rotation, and volunteering to transport patients, really opened my eyes and made me feel so grateful to see all the hard work and team effort employees put in to make the hospital function, from maintenance, nurses, doctors, administration, etc. I am looking forward to the rest of the department rotations in the upcoming weeks and learning what we can do to become more efficient working as a team.
