Pilot program: Student job shadowing

Job shadow opportunities provide increased exposure to and awareness of careers in healthcare to students in our service area. We feature our first job shadow student in a village clinic, Nastasia Willie, and express our gratitude to CHAP leadership for making this happen. Special thanks to Candace Nelson our CHP at Napakiak for being open to piloting the program in Napakiak.

Nastasia is a senior at William Miller Memorial School and will be graduating this year. Here is what she shares from her experience so far:

“I was born in Bethel and raised in Napakiak and have 5 siblings, 3 boys and 2 girls and my mom adopted another girl.  I feel good about my job shadow experience as I am learning a lot. I am learning about the importance of patient confidentiality, other positions one can apply for in the clinic, and about my role as an office assistant. This experience is also teaching me about what is expected in the workplace.  I would encourage students to job shadow as it gives them a good idea of what happens in the workplace.”
