The Communications/Public Relations team is thrilled to welcome Nicholai Joekay as the new Public Information Officer. In this position, he will help manage internal communications (such as the Napartet News and the quarterly Messenger) and external communications (such as press inquiries and social media.)

About Nicholai: “Uliggaugua Napaskiarmiungulua-llu, taugaam maani Mamterillermi Orutsararmiuni uitaaqlua. I’m Nicholai Joekay from Napaskiak, but I live and work in Bethel, the Orutsararmiut territory. I got my name the traditional Yup’ik way. My Yugtun name is Uliggaq, named after the late Fr. Nicolai Michael of Kwethluk.

Living in the YK Delta affords me the chance to thoroughly immerse myself in our Yup’ik culture. I enjoy yuraq, hunting and fishing, gathering greens and picking berries, and learning about our rich history.

I am a new YKHC employee, but I was born at the hospital here in Bethel and have entrusted my healthcare to this organization. I look forward to working with you all and sharing the stories and information that will contribute to our mission to achieve excellent health.”
