If you discover smoke or fire, R.A.C.E.

• R Rescue anyone in immediate area
• A Activate the nearest fire alarm and alert your department.
• C Contain smoke and fire; close doors/windows.
• E Extinguish only if possible to do so; evacuate if necessary.

To use a fire extinguisher, P.A.S.S.

• P Pull the pin.
• A Aim hose at the base of the fire.
• S Squeeze handles together.
• S Sweeping motion at the base of the flame.

If you hear a fire alarm:

• Report to your department immediately.
• Assure patients, residents and visitors that you are following a plan.
• Close all doors and windows.
• Evacuate if necessary; know the locations of exits.
• Assemble at your designated Assembly Point – see Department Plan
