Use encryption when sending sensitive information in emails

YKHC’s email system scans the content of each message. It will automatically encrypt an email containing sensitive data, such as a social security number, date of birth, or credit card number.

However, you should always force encryption manually if it contains sensitive information. You may intend for an email to remain internal, but someone else could forward it outside of the organization.

To force encryption:

     1) Change the “Sensitivity” of the message from Normal to Confidential. Or,

     2) Include one of the following words, including the parenthesis, in the subject line:

(Encrypt)
(HIPAA)
(Patient)
(PHI)
(Consult)
