John Nicori Jr. obtains Chemical Dependency Counselor 1 certification

John Nicori Jr. of Kwethluk has earned his Chemical Dependency Counselor 1 (CDC 1) certification. John currently works at the Ayagnirvik Healing Center as a Traditional Counselor in the opioid program, and has been in this position for over a year. John is working towards obtaining the CDC 2 certification.  He is striving to increase his knowledge and education in the chemical use disorders field to better serve those in need. John states that his job of being a traditional counselor is rewarding, as he sees people making real changes and turning their lives around and heal from addiction. John asks that those who have the gift of talking to and helping others work through their issues to look into becoming a counselor, as it is a rewarding career.

John works hard in the Medication Assisted Therapy program for YKHC. He communicates well with the medical providers and builds relationships with the clients who love attending his groups. 

John and his wife Johnann have 4 children. He is an ordained priest in the Orthodox Church. He loves spending time with his family and taking them on subsistence’s trips and passing down important cultural knowledge and family traditions.

Congratulations to John Nicori, we are looking forward to seeing what the future holds and how he continues to obtain education and help those he comes in contact with.
