In this weeks safety session: Code Red (Fire), the corporate wide code for smoke and fire.

Code Red Activation/Response

• Code Red should be immediately initiated whenever one of the following indications of a real or suspected fire are observed: Seeing smoke or fire.
• If the fire is in your department/facility remember the acronym “RACE”
  • R – Rescure
  • A – Activate
  • C – Contain
  • E – Extinguish or Evacuate

• Activate the fire alarm (fire alarm pull station)
• To extinguish fire, use P.A.S.S:
  • P – Pull the pin
  • A – Aim hose at the base of the fire
  • S – Squeeze handles together
  • S – Sweeping motion at the base of the flame.

• Confine smoke and fire (close doors)
• Hospital & LTC – Horizontal evacuation
• SRC’s total evacuation
• Village Clinics total evacuation

“Code Red All clear” announcement will be done by security staff with the overhead paging system.
