Every year, two million American workers report having been victims of workplace violence. This violence fits into four categories: Criminal intent, customer/client, worker-on-worker and personal relationship (most involving women).
Civil disturbance code at YKHC is Code Silver with a weapon and Code Gray without a weapon. In the deadliest situations, involving an active shooter, use the run, hide or fight as shown in the AMO (annually mandatory orientation).
Code Gray: Civil disturbance no weapon
- Alert other staff by voice or phone
- All staff who hear the announcement respond to location to display “show of force”
- If escalated, call the police.
Code Silver: Civil disturbance with weapon:
- Call Security at 543-6603 or Contact the police, 911
- Announce overhead
- Take cover, stay in a locked room until “all clear” is made overhead.
