Safety Session of the Week: Workplace Violence

Every year, two million American workers report having been victims of workplace violence. This violence fits into four categories: Criminal intent, customer/client, worker-on-worker and personal relationship (most involving women).

Civil disturbance code at YKHC is Code Silver with a weapon and Code Gray without a weapon. In the deadliest situations, involving an active shooter, use the run, hide or fight as shown in the AMO (annually mandatory orientation).

Code Gray: Civil disturbance no weapon

  • Alert other staff by voice or phone
  • All staff who hear the announcement respond to location to display “show of force”
  • If escalated, call the police.

Code Silver: Civil disturbance with weapon:

  • Call Security at 543-6603 or Contact the police, 911
  • Announce overhead
  • Take cover, stay in a locked room until “all clear” is made overhead.

Villages call the Tribal Police Officer (TPO), or Village Police Officer (VPO)

Contact your safety team to report any safety issues: Director of Safety and Security ext. 6593 or Assistant Director of Safety and Security ext. 6590. Safety risks can also be reported using the online reporting system, Quantros.
