Compass Spotlight: Darian Erik

During my Compass experience, I have learned a lot. The first week was intense; we were introduced to the program, we got to hear from our Senior Leaders & past Compass cohorts about their leadership journey, and we learned our personality types. Since that first week, we have explored many leadership and management skills.

We have also had the opportunity to participate in department rotations. In the rotations, I have seen different management styles while gaining an understanding of how each department contributes to YKHC’s mission, working together to achieve excellent health. It is also great that we get to have mentors during the program to help us through the training. I am excited to apply the skills that I have gained from this experience so I can be able to train and help my team and our department now and for the future.

The program has helped me gain more knowledge and skills; for example, how to set goals for myself, my team, and my department. I have also learned about leadership styles, crucial conversations, emotional intelligence, and the basics of project management.

I feel grateful to be attending this native leadership program. I appreciate all the time, effort, and encouragement from our Senior Leadership Team, our instructor Jennifer, my mentor Christopher Beltzer, my manager Virginia Howard, and from my team.
