COVID-19 Employee Health Tip: Wash Your Hands and Limit Non-Essential Business Travel Out of State

In the interest of employee, customer and community health, we are launching today a weekly series of tips you can use to protect yourself from the novel coronavirus, COVID-19. YKHC is here for you and your family.

Wash Your Hands Well and Often

One of the easiest and most important ways to protect yourself from COVID-19 is frequent hand washing. If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.

Here’s the CDC’s guidance on hand washing: Washing your hands is easy, and it’s one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of germs. Clean hands can stop germs from spreading from one person to another and throughout an entire community.

Follow these five steps every time

  1. Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap, and apply soap.
  2. Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails.
  3. Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. Need a timer? Hum the “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to end twice.
  4. Rinse your hands well under clean, running water.
  5. Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry them.

Limit Non-Essential Business Travel Out of State

Until further notice, YKHC is recommending employees limit non-essential business travel out of state. While the CDC has not issued travel advisories for any U.S. states, the number of cases across the country continues to rise. Employees can protect themselves from exposure to the virus by limiting non-essential business travel out of state.

Stay Informed

The information about COVID-19 is changing rapidly; often daily. Employees should regularly read the CDC’s guidance on COVID-19, available here: cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/
