This week’s safety message covers Code Red, which indicates there is fire or smoke in the building. Here is what you do in the event of a fire at one of our facilities:
If you discover smoke or fire, R.A.C.E.
R – Rescue anyone in immediate area
A – Activate the nearest fire alarm and alert your department.
C – Contain smoke and fire; close doors/windows.
E – Extinguish only if possible to do so; evacuate if necessary.
To use a fire extinguisher, P.A.S.S.:
P – Pull the pin.
A – Aim hose at the base of the fire.
S – Squeeze handles together.
S – Sweeping motion at the base of the flame.
If you hear a fire alarm:
• Report to your department immediately.
• Assure patients, residents and visitors that you are following a plan.
• Close all doors and windows.
• Evacuate if necessary; know the locations of exits.
• Assemble at your designated assembly point.
