Situational Update: Transportation Update, PTO Reminder and Daily Stress Management Tip

Transportation Update

YKHC has confirmed Alaska Cab is running. Employees needing a cab can call 543-2111. YKHC’s temporary agreement from this past weekend with Kusko Cab is no longer in place.

PTO Reminder

YKHC does not have separate leave policies for vacation time and sick time.

PTO is used for both sick leave and vacation time off. Qualifying employees can use PTO after successfully completing their 90 day probationary period. When used, it is paid at the employee’s regular rate of pay. The amount of PTO earned is based on the employee’s years of service.

Many peer organizations start their employees with 10 days of PTO per year; YKHC starts our employees at 23 days per year.

In some instances, an employee may be eligible for FMLA leave, or short-term or long-term disability. Employees with eligibility questions should contact human resources benefits staff at hrbenefits@ykhc.org.

As a reminder, employees should always communicate with their manager if they will not be at work for their scheduled shift.

Stress Management Tip

We will be regularly sharing stress management tips for employees. Here is the first one.

Pause when you first arrive at your computer. Feel the weight of your legs in the chair and the pressure of your feet as they contact the floor. Take a few calming breaths. Gently deepen your inhale and lengthen your exhale. Try counting to three on the inhale and on the exhale. Adjust the timing so that it feels most calming for your body.
