Compass Spotlight: Lucinda Alexie

I would like to thank the leadership team for taking the time to enlighten us with their own experience in becoming managers, former Compass participants for sharing their experience, and presenters during our department rotations for providing valuable information about YKHC and about working for YKHC.

This year’s Compass program has been quite a learning experience.  We started with a week-long classroom intensive. Classroom discussions have encouraged participants to successfully communicate using skills we have learned in “Crucial Conversations”. Over the course of the program a variety of personality assessments were introduced. These types of assessments can be helpful in communicating with individuals and building teams. All of what we have learned are building blocks to make improvements in ourselves, our teams, and our corporation.

Taking part in patient transports was a worthwhile introduction and transition to incorporate department rotations.  We have a better understanding of YKHC as a whole, that each department is essential for this health corporation as we work together to achieve excellent health.  We have the opportunity to see various management techniques including different ways managers can reward and provide recognition, letting others know that you saw them do good work.

I would like to encourage everyone to take advantage of the different learning opportunities that are available.  And, thank you to our managers and mentors for encouraging the participants in this program.

Lucinda Alexie, Associate Research Coordinator
